Fauna
In the area of the villages live tens of legally protected species of animals, out of which not an abundant but a noticeable one is the White Stork (Ciconia ciconia). Over the last few years in the fields and pastures located at lower altitude among the most frequent animal species is the Common Pheasant (Phasianus colchicus) and in the mountain meadows also Corncrake (Crex crex). The river network is a nesting place for several protected species of river birds. Among the most significant is the Common Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis). The experts have also recorded the incidence of the Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea). The forest complexes house a wide spectrum of distinct species of animals.
The mammals are represented by the Brown Bear (Ursus arctos), Eurasian Lynx (Lynx lynx) and occasionally by the Wildcat (Felix sylvestris) and by the Gray Wolf (Canis lupus).
Among the most typical bird species are the Black stork (Ciconia nigra) and the Hazel Grouse (Bonasa bonasia). One of the most valuable species is the Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) and the Imperial Eagle (Aquila heliaca). The incidence of the Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus), the Lesser Spotted Eagle and Eurasian Eagle-Owl (Bubo bubo) was recorded in the area of Vtáčnik as well. The area is profound in amphibians such as the Fire Salamander (Salamandra salamandra).
